Hero Tires began as Nanchang Rubber Plant in 1956 producinggaloshes and rubber shoes. A year later, it merged withNanchang City Car Repair Plant and Third Rubber Plant andbegan production of bias PCR tires in 1960. Production ofagricultural tires soon followed and in 1977, NanchangRubber Plant was declared as one of the top 16 major tiremanufacturers in China. Motorcycle tire production beganin 1980 and in 1984; the company was renamed as Jiang XiRubber Plant.
